Celtis laevigata

Size: 3-gallon

The Sugarberry is a hardy, drought-tolerant tree native to the southern United States, known for its adaptability and attractive form. Typically growing 50-70 feet tall, this deciduous tree features smooth, gray bark with characteristic warty ridges, and its small, greenish flowers in spring give way to sweet, orange-red berries that attract birds and wildlife. With its broad, rounded canopy, the Sugarberry provides excellent shade, thriving in full sun and a wide range of soil types, including wet, dry, and even alkaline soils. It's a low-maintenance tree, perfect for parks, streetscapes, or natural areas.

  • Purchased trees can be picked up at the Sand Hill Nursery on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and noon. Alternate pickup dates can be arranged if needed.

  • Please note that availability and price may vary throughout the sale due to the available size and stock quality. More tree species may be added as our nursery manager has deemed them ground-ready.

  • Size = size of the pot they are currently in. The actual height of trees varies from 1' to 6'.
